Our Cross-Country Road Trip, April 2024

We did it.

The great American road trip. It’s an institution. A rite of passage. An adventure.

In April of 2024, we set out to drive across the USA, from Florida to California, on a great cross country road trip adventure.

For 20 days, we would visit great natural wonders, iconic roadside attractions, Route 66 destinations, movie and music locations, and lots more.

We saw bayous, deserts, mountains, beaches, canyons, sunsets and sunrises. Drove over bridges, through tunnels, on long stretches of farmlands and abandoned towns, and on curving mountain roads.

We enjoyed seeing the sites, doing and seeing new things, having fun and learning. From UFO’s to geodesic spheres to abandoned arrows, entire towns seemingly built around one song, blasted earth left by a meteor 50,000 years ago, and everything in between.

Thank you.

I hope you have enjoyed sharing in this epic adventure with us. For those who enjoyed it and shared your support, laughed with us, ooooh’d and aaahhh’d with us, and rode in the car along for the ride with us, you are part of this with us forever. For any who may have missed it, the vlogs are there for you to enjoy for all time. Documented and meant for any and all who love travel, who love to wander, who want to see the roads and towns of the USA as they are now, and as they are rarely shown. And most importantly, in our own unique way and through our perspective, with laughs, a sense of wonder, enthusiasm  and openness to it all. This trip was truly OURS – and that includes you. OURS.

So thank you to all who enjoyed our cross-country road trip, and all who will enjoy it in the future! The vlogs belong to us all and are documented to be shared and enjoyed by all. All are welcome, and invited. “Here it is.” (…get it?)

Love,

Jackie (& Sam)

It is my bucket list to do a trip like this, but don’t where to start. Could you share your planning process. Like was ot better to rent a car and then find hotels along the way. We live in Jacksonville and thought of just taking I-10 to LA. Your trip looks amazing and just sparked my adventurous spirit!

It definitely takes a lot of planning! We planned for several weeks with a big shared spreadsheet. We rented a car here and dropped it off at LAX and flew home. All hotels and the rental car and flights were booked in advance, and we made a list of the places and things we wanted to see each day, and mapped them out in google maps so that they made sense and we didn’t have to do any backtracking. Everything had to be on the way and help us get to our next destination. Also, we planned it so we didn’t drive at night, because we knew we would be tired and unfamiliar roads in the dark aren’t fun. So we planned out daytime drives, some days of driving, some days of driving and seeing stops, and some days stopping places to do things and staying in hotels. Planning it was a lot of fun because we’re both planners, but it takes time to find the right places to stay, etc. We used TripAdvisor a lot for reviews of best places to stay and eat and also within our budget. You have a head start being in Jacksonville, we started on I-10 too!
